Unlisted Properties Over 50 Years Old

City Planning staff reviews properties that have proposed significant alterations, demolition, or redevelopment of properties or structures that are over 50 years old and are not listed in the City's Historic Building Survey. As new proposals are submitted to the City's Planning & Community Development department, the review of those properties over 50 are publicly posted. If you have questions or concerns about any property documentation found here or about a property that is not listed in the Historic Building Survey but is over 50 years old, please submit your comment or question using the online feature provided. 

Historic properties within the City of Santa Cruz are listed in the City's Historic Building Survey. The Historic Building Survey protects historic properties since it acts as a guide for City staff. For example, before a commercial or residential property can be demolished City staff must complete a review and determine whether the property is listed in the Historic Building Survey. Proposals that include significant alteration, demolition, or redevelopment of properties or structures that are over 50 years old and not listed in the City's Historic Building Survey are reviewed by City staff. The California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) 523 series of forms are used for recording and evaluating resources and for nominating properties as California Historical Landmarks, California Points of Historical Interest, and to the California Register of Historical Resources.
