Walking Adventure Group

We have some fun adventures planned on both Tuesdays and Thursdays for people who are looking to get some exercise and make new friends while enjoying the beauty of Santa Cruz! Walks meet at 9:30 am and aim to return by 11:30 am.

Tuesdays  - Enjoy a leisurely walk of a different area each week.  The intention of this group is to get outside, move our body, and enjoy nature unfolding. 

Thursdays - A slightly faster paced walk for people who enjoy walking 2-4 miles at various elevation gains.

Please go on walks that feel comfortable for you within the corresponding parameters.
No boot means the walk is less than 100 ft elevation gain.
🥾: Up to 200 ft elevation gain. Hiking sticks recommended.
🥾🥾: Up to 300 ft elevation gain. Hiking sticks recommended.
🥾🥾🥾: Up to 600 ft elevation gain. Hiking sticks recommended.

Tuesdays: 9:30-11:30am

October 7th:
UCSC Arboretum, 2 miles 🥾:
Drive past the UCSC Main Entrance heading north on High Street which turns into Empire Grade. The entrance to the Garden is on the east side of High Street, about 1/2 mile up High Street past the main entrance on the west side of campus. (right-hand side if you're going uphill.) The arboretum has community day every first Tuesday of the month. We will be walking the trails and exploring the nature around us. Approx. 124ft elevation gain. No dogs allowed.

October 14th:
Land of Medicine Buddha, 2.5 miles 🥾🥾🥾:
Prescott Road is a narrow, winding road, drive slow and take your time. Parking is limited, please carpool of possible. We will be exploring the Eight Verse Trail Loop and the Temple. Approx. 390ft elevation. Leashed dogs welcome 

October 21st:
Natural Bridges/West Cliff, 2.5 miles:
Park at the Natural Bridges parking lot. We will walk along the coast and experience surf and nature. Approx. 75ft elevation. Leashed dogs welcome.

October 28th:
Downtown Sea Walls Murals, 1.8 miles:
Park at London Nelson Community Center. Day Passes available. We will be walking downtown to see some of the murals 8-20. We will be stopping for coffee at Pacific Coffee Roasting Company before heading back to London Community Center. Leashed dogs welcome.

Thursdays: 9:30-11:30am

October 2nd:
Glenwood Open Space Reserve, approx. 3 miles 🥾🥾:
Park at the Glenwood Open Space Preserve parking lot. We will walk over to the West Glenwood Open Space Preserve entrance on K Street. We will be doing part of the Blue, Green, Yellow and Magenta loops before heading back. Dirt paths, hiking sticks recommended. 300ft elevation gain. Leashed dogs welcome.

October 9th:
Fall Creek Unit, 3.4 miles 🥾🥾🥾:
Parking is located Felton Empire Rd. at Ley Rd. We will be walking along Bennet Creek trail to the Lime Kilns. Fee required. Out and back. Approx. 511 elevation gain

October 16th:
Grant Street Park, 2 miles:
Meet at Grant Street Park for a leisurely neighborhood stroll. Dogs on leash are welcome. Easy terrain, paved.

October 23rd:
DeLaveaga Park, 2.4 miles 🥾🥾:
Meet at the parking lot at DeLaveaga Park, 855 Branciforte Drive, Santa Cruz. We will hike the trails of DeLaveaga up to the "Top of the World" and back. Easy to moderate terrain, 381ft elevation gain. Walking stick recommended. Leashed dogs welcome.

October 30th:
Strawberry Beach via Ohlone Bluffs Trail, 3.5 miles 🥾:
Park at Wilder Ranch parking lot off Coast Rd. We will be walking the Ohlone Bluff Trail to Strawberry Beach and loop back around. Approx. 157ft elevation. No dogs allowed.
