A Downtown for All - Fun, Families, and Fascination
The Downtown Play and Paseos Project will help revitalize Downtown by transforming service alleys and major streets into a network of pedestrian-friendly public spaces with a diverse array of amenities.
The Placemaking Rule of 10 finds that the most successful destinations offer visitors at least 10 unique activities to do. This helps broaden the appeal of a place and make it more engaging and dynamic for more people with diverse interests.
This project will add to the already wide array of activities and amenities Downtown, by adding features for residents and visitors of all ages, including playful sculptures and focal elements, outdoor dining areas, fitness and event spaces, as well as artful wayfinding to better connect foot traffic from Pacific Avenue nearby entertainment, commercial, and public facilities along Cedar and Front Street, among others.
The Project builds off the recent Downtown recovery and revitalization work by Parks and Recreation for the Downtown Site Furnishings Standards (“Downtown Standards”) and will help realize the long-term vision of the Downtown Plan, which called for active alleys serving as both public spaces and service lanes.
